What stands in the way of someone having work-life balance?
A lot of people feel like theyโre working toward working-life balance, which doesnโt exist. Most people are trying to โbalanceโ family with work, but youโre never going to put your family on the same level as work. Family is usually more important. Instead of focusing on finding โbalance", focus instead on tending to what needs to be tended to in that moment and be mindful that you donโt have to do everything at the same time.
The biggest thing that gets in the way is mindset. We have to change the fact that we think everything has to be balanced and equal and that we have to have everything good all the time. A well-rounded life is a chosen life. You canโt be everywhere all the time, but you can nurture what needs to be handled until itโs good, and then move on to the next thing.
In order to achieve a well-rounded life, you have to fight the notion of trying to make everything equal.
What are some steps we can take to achieve a well-rounded life?
The first step is to just surrender. Take everything youโve been doing and just acknowledge that it isnโt working. Go back to the drawing board and start trying to create systems and automate things in your business. You need to have a routine so you can figure out where you can get some help. Then outsource! Outsource the things that are time-sucks, meaning the things that you hate doing that are taking time away from the things you love most. Make a list of your time-sucks and start tracking your time, and then find someone who can take those things off your plate.
Are there any tools you recommend to help build a well-rounded life?
A one-sheet! Itโs for people who have an ongoing to-do list, but it helps you focus on the one main thing that needs to get done in the week before moving on to another thing. You do it every week and it keeps you from feeling defeated that you didnโt get a hundred things done. Asana is also a great tool to actually keep your business organized and automated and keep clients on track.
