Her Entrepreneur Journey
Katieās early business years were full of challenges. She graduated from Vanderbilt, and had a few different jobs in PR, marketing, and sales before she started feeling like she wasnāt fulfilled and there had to be more to life, so she made some quick decisions that led her to being an entrepreneur and then a coach. After losing her brother in 2015 to an overdose, she battled sickness for a long time before finally receiving the diagnosis that she had Lyme disease.
During this time Katie started the very early stages of building her current company, Inner Glow Circle, a company focused on helping entrepreneurs find their purpose, live it, and get paid. Theyāve gone from self-funded to an almost million dollar business, and Katie now works as the CEO for IGC with a large team contributing to their mission.
What was your motivation for leaving the security of your job and whatās your advice for our audience to find their own motivation?
The discomfort was the motivation. During the really hard years and struggles, I had already laid the foundations for what could be a successful business, so the stubborn side and my inability to let things rest was what pushed me to keep trying. You have to have a desire to understand things and be blind to what your family, friends, and other entrepreneurs are doing, so that you can keep pushing forward.
I think as an entrepreneur you have to be stubborn and you have to be blind to what everyone else is doing.
Is there any specific thing you can attribute your business growth to? When did you start to see things moving forward?
I think because I had to fight so hard for my business - between breaking things off with a fiancƩ and then have to go to court to take the control back of my business because he was my business partner too, and then losing my brother, and going through treatments for Lyme diseases - having all of that happen at once forced me to train myself to see everything as an opportunity.
Stories are what sell, so even though I wasnāt intentionally trying to cause struggles in my life, I knew that I would be able to use and share these stories someday of what I had been through and that it would help other people, and that motivated me to keep pushing through everything. The only other option was giving up, and I just knew I couldnāt do that.
